Serpent Passion

IMG_2170.JPG

Serpent Passion is a silty sand material collected from the Serpentinite belts of the Blue Mountains of Oregon.

Earth-Fire, Earth-Water

Originally a piece of the oceanic crust of the ancient Farallon Plate, which was thrust onto the continent in the Jurassic (~160 million years ago). The very base of the oceanic crust, the mantle, is rich in iron, magnesium, silicon, and oxygen. During the tectonic processes, the mantle rock was infused with hot, silica rich waters turning it into serpentenite.
